Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026 (web purchases).
Midnight Casebook is made by ElliSekiz LLC ("we"). This policy explains what we collect in the app and on midnightcasebook.com, and why.
In the app
- Account. When you first open the app we create an anonymous account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we store only the account identifier those services give us — not your name or email.
- Game progress. Which cases you played, your accusations, hints, scores and the nickname you choose. Used to save your progress, compute scores and show leaderboards.
- Profile photo. If you are signed in, you can upload a profile photo. It is shown next to your nickname on leaderboards. Other players can report a photo; reported photos are hidden and reviewed. You can remove your photo at any time in Profile.
- Purchases. In the iPhone app, subscriptions and purchases are handled by Apple. On the website, payments are processed by Stripe, which collects your card details and the email address you enter at checkout under its own privacy policy; we never receive your full card number. From Apple or Stripe we receive the transaction details needed to unlock Casebook Pro (product, price, status and renewal dates).
- Advertising measurement. The app includes Meta's SDK, which reports app installs, app opens and App Store purchases (product, price, currency) to Meta so we can measure our ads. If you allow tracking in the App Tracking Transparency prompt, the SDK may use your device's advertising identifier; if you don't, Meta only receives aggregated, privacy-preserving measurements through Apple's systems. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. We never send your name or email address.
- Analytics and crash reports. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics receive anonymous usage events and crash data so we can fix bugs and improve cases.
- Notifications. If you allow them, daily case reminders are scheduled on your device. Campaign messages are sent through Firebase Cloud Messaging.
On this website
To measure our advertising, this website uses the Meta Pixel and Google Analytics, and sends the same events (page view, time spent on the page, App Store or play button click, and in the web game the start of a free trial or a purchase) to Meta from our server (Conversions API). These events include your IP address, browser user agent, Meta's cookie identifiers, the ad click identifier in the link you followed, and a random visitor ID stored in your browser (sent to Meta only in hashed form). We never send your name or email address.
You can opt out at any time with "Decline" in the cookie notice or "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the page. After you decline, no measurement tools load and nothing is sent to Meta or Google; we only count the visit anonymously (which page, which campaign, which button) without cookies, identifiers, IP address or browser details.
Your choices
You can delete your account and all associated data in the app under Profile > Delete account, or by contacting us. You can change your tracking choice at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. We do not sell personal data.
